out of the frying pan and into the fireplace...

(This will be a narrative in pictures, mostly.)

When we moved in, we had this:

The green was a no-go, so we started to change things:

Then, upon closer examination, we saw that there was more to do than paint:

(this tile would fall out if anyone bumped into the mantle too hard)

(this cover is beautiful but was not living up to it's full potential)

So, we found a great contractor by recommendation,
and he started the transformation.
But he had to destroy...

before he could rebuild...

This is what we have now:

The end.

Gorgeous!! How awesome! I just left a fellow spelmanite's first home purchase. She has impeccable taste too. Gorgeous! (did I say that already?)

aw, shucks. many thanks all around.

black girl - i am fortunate enough to have beautiful design minds within reach (yourself included), so i dare not take all the credit. do i know this new-home-owning spelmanite? house party!!! lol

cowgirl - let us make that phone date happen. (and how!)

viridian - you likey? nice to see your suggestions come to life, huh? i can't wait to get all the furniture back in there, so i can see a finished space. what say you of the tile? what learnings can we glean from this?

snuggs - thaaanks! i guess this is just the way paint color is going to go with me step 1 - choose it and love it, step 2 - paint it on and hate it/ think i've made a terrible mistake and am colorblind, step 3 - see color with other things in the space and love it again
